Glossary of Terms
NTSC Stands for National Television Systems Committee.
PAL Stands for Phase Alternation Line,  a video format utilized in most of Europe.
PGC Stands for Program Chain, containing instructions in a DVD-Video title for controlling interactivity and the presentation of AV sequences and menus.
QuickTime  Is Apple's video file format.  See: .MOV  These files are also compatible with Windows.
Region Coding Division of the world in 6 territories in accordance to  DVD-Video specification.
RSPC Stands for Reed-Solomon Product Code, the standard DVD error protection system.
SECAM Stands for Système Electronique Couleur Avec Mémoire  which translates in French to electronic Color Memory System, the video format used in France, and other European countries.
SMPTE Stands for Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
SVCD Stands for Super Video CD, an enhanced VCD format which is closer to DVD than other variations on the format.  The only drawback is the format's limited storage space.  Nonetheless, its one of the few variants of the VCD format that is currently being reviewed for official standardization.
UDF Stands for Universal Disk Format, the filing system used for CD-RW and DVD and  disks.
VBR stands for Variable Bit Rate, this encoding scheme is used when you wish to attain the highest quality audio files, and generally means larger file size.
VCD  Is the White Book Standard formate which allows storage of up to 74 minutes of VHS grade video on a CD using MPEG-1. 
VOB Stands for Video Object file, containing a DVD-Video disc containing MPEG video, audio and navigation data.
WMA Stands for Windows Media Audio. 
WMV  Stands for Windows Media Video
XSVCD Is another hack of the VCD format, this time pushing the bit rate of the SVCD to the same level as DVD.  
XVCD XVCD is an alternate VCD format. The X stands for eXtended VCD.
