what is the problem?

when I make svcd standard - I see it fine on the PC (media player) and through the burned cd in the home DVD player (pioneer 355) Once I make the video in 2500 kbps and higher bitrate, I can see it good in the window media player, but I get some distorations in the burned cd/rw while playing it in th PC and in the home DVD player. I am using NERO for burning. Any idea of what is wrong?
